Cristiano Ronaldo ‘accepts’ Two-year Suspended Jail Sentence And €18.8m Fine

Real Madrid and Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly accepted a two-year suspended jail sentence and fined €18.8m after to end his tax evasion case.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported on Friday that Ronaldo, who is currently with the Portuguese national team at the World Cup in Russia, agreed to pay the large fine regarding four tax offences, as well as a two-year jail sentence.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had been accused of defrauding the Spanish government of £12.9m by prosecutors, and at that time he denied all allegations when he appeared in Spanish court last summer.

But as part of the deal, Ronaldo is reported to have pleaded guilty to the offences and agreed to pay back the alleged evaded fee, plus additional fines and interest.

The report also claims that the sanction will be signed off once the required parties including the new director of the Spanish Tax Agency, affix their signatures.

A team of surgeons led by the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, Professor Auwal Abubakar, has successfully separated four-month-old conjoined female twins. Professor Auwal disclosed the development to journalists at a news conference in Yola yesterday. “We have a successful separation of conjoined female twins (Omphilopagus),”he said, adding that the development was recorded following a team work by different medical units. He said the surgery was conducted on May 14, adding that the chances of survival of the twins were excellent. The director said it took his team four hours to perform the operation which was the second of its kind in the hospital. He noted that Nigeria had medical personnel that could compete with their counterparts in developed countries. The father of the twins, Muhammad Ramat from KasuwanShanu in Maiduguri, thanked the management of the hospital for paying the bills for the surgery.
